My Uncle Leo "Otis" Clark passed away 10 March 2017.  My Dad is now the only surviving child of  Otis Elmer Clark and Ruby Pearl Poundstone.  Uncle Odie and the Clark family from Stonington has suffered many losses in the family.  In 1968, Bruce Wyman Clark, older brother of Otis, was murdered.  The sheriff took my cousin William Damery and my Uncle Otis into custody for interrogation for the murder. The sheriff played one against the other - hurt feelings ran rapid and the family was divided.  After many years William and Otis discovered what the Sheriff had done and went about repairing their relationship.  In 2009 the real killer of Bruce was arrested and convicted of his murder.  Otis and William both monitored the courtroom during the trial.  Grandpa Otis had before his death had forgiven Bruce's killer.  Many other family members struggled with their feelings when John Joynt was arrested forty years later.  My greatest hope is...

Mom and Spooky, cir 1968 Ah, my beautiful mother - allergic to cats but never without one by her side.  She always would take in a stray - anything she could do to save a cat.  We once saved a sick cat in Stonington Illinois and drove it back to Chicago, with the cat having diarrhea the whole way home.  The car smelled so bad!  Mom got her to the vet and "Ralph" (actually Ralphette) lived a loved and happy life with us.

Sepia Saturday- This week's prompt was the picture above featuring a view of a river or bay.  My interpretation of the prompt shows two pictures taken the same day at Navy pier featuring my mother and a ship on Lake Michigan. My grandfather would take my mother to the pier to to watch the ships so that my grandmother could have some down time.  My mother developed a love for ships and boats.  She joined the Marine Scouts in high school and often sailed on Lake Michigan. Well I have over 20 dozen cookies in the freezer, most all my Christmas gifts purchased (some not yet received) and feeling ready for the holidays. My mother's birthday just pasted on November 13th and this year I thought I came up with the best gifts.  First a fix for her Santa collection, a Santa and cat from the Jim Shore Collection and then a DVD of  Kukla, Fran and Ollie 1949-1954 that I found at the Chicago Historical Society store . Mom shared Kukla, Fran and Ollie with us when we were little.  She had records (45's) of some of the shows and she played them for my brother and I.  She also sang their silly songs often and loudly when our friends were around.  That fact was forgotten until my mother called the other day and started singing the Kukla, Fran and Ollie theme song rather than saying hello when she called.  A downside yes, a happy mom priceless.  The whole singing episode with Mom made me think of the upcoming Christma...
