Jamboree 2016 - I'm In! U2?

Image
So I really thought I would not go to Jamboree - saving some funds for FGS in Springfield but I can't be good!  Budget be damned!  I have already picked my classes and I think I can room with some friends - Laurie and Bev - hint hint!   I told myself I wouldn't look at the classes, then I promised myself  I wouldn't go unless I had a roomie and now I have just proven I have no self control what so ever...... I should be ashamed...if I weren't so happy looking forward to going.   I blame Lise Harding with her Facebook posts highlighting the Jamboree for my downfall.  In years past I have served as her Jamboree slave happily serving as room monitor and registration packet pusher - this year no twisting the arm to volunteer - but those teasers!  I dare you to give the Jamboree 2016 website a view.  Visit the page at http://genealogyjamboree.com/index.html  to see if you get tempted to visit. The good news is that I will be able to see ...

SCGS DNA Day and Jamboree - It's started!

Well I am all checked to the Jamboree.  I have my volunteer badge and I am ready to start my duties as room monitor for  the Digital Workshop.  The hotel has a lot of folks wandering around with their red Jamboree bags ready to learn all about DNA and attend one of the many workshops being offered.  This is the first time that the Jamboree has offered workshops.  I think it will be a worth while undertaking  for the society. Yesterday Leslie Carney and I utilized the society library.  I  found some new leads and can not wait to do some more research.  I have to tell you the ladies at the library are awesome.  We were welcomed and helped even with the constant ringing of the telephone.  I guess the day of and the day before the Jamboree have the phone ringing with questions!  The ladies took it all in stride.  They also directed us to some nearby stores were we found lunch. I am looking forward to seeing what this day wil...

I'm so there - Southern California Jamboree

Image
Yes, I am sooooo there!  I have paid for my registration, workshops, and dinners for the Jamboree.  The hotel room is booked, and Leslie Carney and I will be driving out to enjoy Burbank!  I am looking forward to spending time with fellow Arizona gals Laurie Desmaris and Bev Fieg - (the four of us recently terrorized Salt Lake City) we are dangerous together but oh so much fun! Can't wait to attend the Documenting a Respectable Family History with Tom Jones, Creating a Digital Scrapbook with Barb Groth and dinners with speakers Tom Jones and Michael Lacopo.  For more information on the Jamboree visit:   http://www.genealogyjamboree.com/

Jamboree - I'm on overload!

I finally had a chance to get a full look around the exhibit hall.  I purchased a couple of DNA tests- beware Matt and Mom it's your turn to take the test.  Hopefully at some point I will be able to get some cousins tested.  We were lucky and found a few vendors willing to donate prizes for our Pima County Genealogy Society's upcoming seminar in October featuring Lisa Louise Cooke. My two hour stint as a volunteer at the registration table went well.  I really enjoyed meeting and greeting folks as they checked in for the day.  Thanks SCGS for giving me a call in Tucson and getting me to agree to volunteer. I also was happy to see my memories for the sixties and the picture I sent in to be enlarged and in the convention hall.  Later tonight we will be attending the "New Year's Eve" Party. I bought a gift for my husband and was given a pen for my son-in-law as a thank you for his service in the Marines by the Uncle Ronnie thee penmaker.  The pens a...

Genetic Genealogy 2014

So the day got off to a wonderful start!  We listened to Tim Janzen  talk about Chromosome Mapping and Autosomal Analysis.  Just wish I would have caught the correct address for the tinyurl he was talking about.  Looking forward to part 2 of his talk later tonight Also had the opportunity to her Maurice Gleason speak on Surname Projects - Something to think about doing.  Well off the the afternoon sessions
