The Genealogy Search

So I really thought I would not go to Jamboree - saving some funds for FGS in Springfield but I can't be good!  Budget be damned!  I have already picked my classes and I think I can room with some friends - Laurie and Bev - hint hint!   I told myself I wouldn't look at the classes, then I promised myself  I wouldn't go unless I had a roomie and now I have just proven I have no self control what so ever...... I should be ashamed...if I weren't so happy looking forward to going.   I blame Lise Harding with her Facebook posts highlighting the Jamboree for my downfall.  In years past I have served as her Jamboree slave happily serving as room monitor and registration packet pusher - this year no twisting the arm to volunteer - but those teasers!  I dare you to give the Jamboree 2016 website a view.  Visit the page at http://genealogyjamboree.com/index.html  to see if you get tempted to visit. I am so excited to leave tomorrow with friends Leslie Carney and Michelle Launi to head to Burbank, California for the Southern California Genealogical Society Jamboree and Family Hisotry and DNA Genetic Genealogy in 2014 conference.  I am looking forward to learning more about  new technology and advances in  DNA and genealogy. Some of my favorite people will be there - Lisa Louise Cooke, Gena Philibert-Ortega, Lisa Alzo, and Janet Hovorka.   I am going to do my best to hear Rhonda McCure,  CeCe Moore, Stephen Morse, and Judy Russell. I decided to volunteer for a few hours at the registration check in on Saturday - hopefully I won't scare folks away!   Leslie and I will be attending the Society Leadership Workshop - we are looking forward to learning how to bring the best to our Pima County Genealogy Society members.  I have found an outfit for the Tie Dye Sunday and the sixties get together.  Watch out - The Trio from Tucson will soon be in...

That's me on the left and Gena on the right! I thought I would share a few more things this week regarding the past weekend's Expo.  It was a wonderful experience, how Holly Hansen manages to put this together every year is beyond me.  She is a superwoman!  I enjoyed so many speakers.  I had time to chat with Gena Philebert-Ortega.  Gena is a wonderfully speaker and blogger in the genealogy world.  If you have a chance check out one of her blogs - I really like Food Family Ephemera . I am so glad that I had the opportunity to attend the banquet Friday night at the Expo.  Dinner was excellent, the company was even better and the presentation outstanding.  The evening started with bloggers seated among the tables sharing the "tech to trace your roots".  I had the good fortune of sitting with Lisa Louise Cooke, Bruce Buzbee and Thomas MacEntee.  The live Genealogy Gems Podcast with Lisa Louise Cooke and her stage manager daughter Lacey Cooke was very entertaining.  Podcast guests included Anastasia Tyler of Ancestry.com (recently featured on The Martha Stewart Show), Bruce Buzbee of Roots Magic - the new sponsor of Genealogy Gems Podcast,   Gena Philibert Ortega, of   Gena’s Genealogy Blog , and the witty and entertaining Thomas MacEntee.  Anastasia shared what we should expect from Ancestry in 2010, talked about the new TV series Who Do You Think You Are? premiering  March 5.  Gena shared how easy it is ...
