The Genealogy Search

My husband referred to me as a "Citation Nazi".  At first I was offended, was I really that bad?  He said yes!  You are always wanting citations, demanding citations, telling people to cite their sources, do your research... I don't think I am the Citation Nazi - I think I am Amy the Good Witch of Citations, or perhaps the Princess of Citations.  The point is I try to instill good research habits in others and myself.  I am not uppity, I am not saying everything I have cited was done in the most absolute perfect form.  I am willing to bet that you would be able to locate any materials referenced in my database whether or not they were in perfect form.  The point is, you can find my research. I have found relatives on Facebook and other social sites. I love them, I welcome them with open arms.  Do I copy their research with open arms - never!!!!! I want to know everything.  Where did you get that, how do you know that, do yo...

My Granduncle and Grandaunt - Catherine (Cashom) and Earl Poundstone.  Earl's real name is Vernon but he went by his middle name of Earl.  Both are buried in the Bement Cemetery, Bement, Piatt County, Illinois.  Earl was one of ten children born to Ora Pearl Poundstone and Stella Ann Adams Poundstone.

Mary Elizabeth and Charles Henry Clark are my great-grandparents.  Charles Henry Clark was born 20 Feb 1870 in Fayette County, Illinois and died 15 Apr 1943 in Decatur, Macon County, Illinois.  His wife Elizabeth, who was about nine years older, was born  23 Nov 1861 in Fayette County, Illinois and died 9 Feb 1949 in Decatur, Macon County, Illinois.  They are both buried in the Saint Bonaventure Cemetery in Saint Elmo, Fayette County, Illinois.  My father remembers that his Grandmother wore laced up men's styled boots with everything she ever wore.  She use to chase the grandchildren around the yard, the boots never slowed her down.

Adolph Blank died 31 March 1900 at the age of 32.  His widow married my Great-Grandfather Theodor Miottel.  Theodor helped to raise Adolph and Emily's children, Margarette, Arthur, Helen and Adolph along with  his own children Clara, George and his brother John W. Miottel. Can anyone make out the cause of death?  The first word appears to be facial.  The death certificate states the death occurred at the Cook County Hospital for the Insane - does anyone know of any facial disease or deformity that may be related to an insanity diagnoses? Any help would be appreciated, thank you my Geneablogger buddies!

Where did all the time go?  I've been blogging for four years!  Looking back I have made some wonderful friends, learned a lot by reading other blogs, helped people start their own blogs and furthered my research!  I had an opportunity to meet some new cousins and have enjoyed swapping pictures with my "new" relatives. I had the opportunity to meet other Geneabloggers at several events throughout the years.  I have never meet a Geneablogger I didn't like.  What a wonderful group of people. Here's to another wonderful year of blogging and continuing the Genealogy Search!

In our beginning class today we discussed a few techniques to get more from a Google search, here are two of my favorites. The ~ included in a Google search will search for similar words to the keyword. For example:  poundstone ~genealogy the above search will search genealogy, family, ancestry, family tree, genealogical, genealogical records, records, roots, surname, vital records. etc - all the words similar to genealogy. - will exclude information For example:   poundstone ~genealogy -paula the above will exclude Paula from the search Try these techniques on your next Google search!

Slava (Stella), Tony (Anthony) and Ivana (Eva) Drvaric 1920's The oldest child in the picture is my husband's Grandma Eva Urman.  Eva died in 2004 in Arizona. Ivana's mother separated from her father when she was 11.  Her father took her to Milwaukee, Wi to his brother Emil and left her there.  Emil died when she was 14 and she stayed with her Aunt until her marriage at age 16.   

Elizabeth Anna Poundstone who married Lewis Hyman is probably the first Poundstone I have come across suffering from a mental illness.  I have no information as to whether or not she had been admitted to the Long Cliff Hospital.  I do know that she had ten children between the years of approximately 1862 to 1885, that alone would make me doubt my sanity.  Religious Excitement Dethroned the Mind of Mrs. Lewis Hyman Of Deer Creek Township, and She Attempted Suicide by Drowning      Mrs. Hyman, wife of Lewis Hyman, a well-known farmer residing in Deer Creek township, two miles north of Young America, attempted suicided Sunday night by drowning in Deer Creek.      The unfortunate woman is 56 years of age, the mother of several children, and her attempt at self-destruction was inspired by religious insanity.      She had been a regular attendant at a religious revival in progress at the United brethren church...

My second great granduncle George Washington Poundstone's obituary.   This is one of my favorite obituaries.... (is it wrong to have a favorite?) Saturday 1 June 1918 GEORGE W. POUNDSTONE KILLED BY LIGHTENING; ANTICS OF DOG TOLD STORY      George W. Poundstone, well-to-do and widely known farmer of the community four miles northeast of Deer Creek, was instantly electrocuted last Friday evening at 7:30 o'clock when struck by a wicked bolt of lightning. When a terrific storm approached, in company with his faithful dog he had gone back to a pasture field to get up the cows for the evening. He had gotten the cows and starting back to the barn when a load clap of thunder emitted a streak of lightning that struck an umbrella he was carrying. The electric current ran down the steel handle of the umbrella and struck him on the breast, running down his left leg and into the ground, his body being badly burned. While I was in Indiana I came across the image below in the Combination Atlas Map of Cass County Indiana, Kingman Brothers, 1878 - reprinted in 1976 by The BookMark of Knightstown Indiana.  The map certainly explains the marriages between the Poundstone's and Zecks, the Hyman's and Poundstone's, the Fout's and the Poundstone's and the Fout's and the Hyman's.  The neighborhood was a built in "shop for a spouse" location!  Map of Young America, Deer Creek Township, Cass County Indiana -1878

I decided to spend some time cleaning up my database. My locations are done, my photos are done, and now I am reviewing every citation and where they are used. I have come to the conclusion that I have improved quite a bit since I started inputting my data. The problem now is that I want my "less mature" cites to be the same standard as that citations I create today. I am almost half way done with my upkeep. I firmly believe that cleaning up roots is the pits! I would much rather be researching or perhaps finish the entering of my vacation finds. Just like a good housekeeper of the home I will soon be a good housekeeper of my RootsMagic. Any Tucson genealogists? I have been searching for death information for Daniel Hyman, 1830-1888, and finally found a record in the Logansport Pharos-Tribune (Indiana), 17 Feb 1938, Page 4 Col. 6.  The item was listed under the title "50 Years Ago" it read: Daniel Hyman, an old and well known Cass county resident, was burled last Sunday at the cemetery north of Young America. The attendance was remarkably large, from 2,000 to 2,500 people being on the grounds, and 318 vehicles in the procession.   Another newspaper tidbit dated the week of Daniel's burial -Logansport Pharos (Indiana), Feb 23 1888,  Page 4, col. 3: Resolutions of Respect. HALL OF FLORA LODGE, } No. 520, I. O. O. F. LOGANSPORT, FEB. 17th, 1888.
